What should I do for math practice? IXL

Hello everyone,

It was great to meet so many parents at our Meet The Teacher conferences last week!

One thing that was brought up during several conferences was what to do for math practice at home. It is expected that if you do not have any math assignments to work on, you are still practising math every day.

Here are some things you can do to keep your skills fresh:

  1. Flashcards
    1. Flashcards can be found at the dollar store.
    2. Flashcards should be multiplication and division up to 12x12
    3. Practice with a friend or family member.
    4. This is going to help you get quicker at Brain Bashers!
  2. IXL
    1. Follow this link: https://ca.ixl.com/math/grade-8
    2. You can complete about 10 practice questions per day for free.
    3. The categories of questions that relate to our current unit are Two-Dimensional Figures (P), Three-Dimensional Figures (T) and Geometric Measurement (U)
  3. Bonus work assigned by Mr. Badr
    1. Sometimes extra worksheets, problems or puzzles will be available in class. Ask to find out.

April 2 - Looking Ahead

Hello everyone! It's been wonderful to see that so many students are logging on to D2L! We've been noticing students looking at the Light and Optics slides and working on their writing prompts, so good work! Tomorrow, we are going to have our first Friday class meeting on Google Meet at 10am . An invite code will be sent to your webmail at 9:55am. It is expected that you attend - barring technical difficulties. This meeting will be a little bit longer than our usual meetings since we are still getting up and running. Two main topics we will cover in this meeting: Tutorial on how to submit assignments from Drive on D2L How to take the Practice Quiz (Tomorrow) and the Science Test (Monday) One question we had yesterday was about what Mrs. Thornborough is going to do with Band . We talked to her today and she said that she would set up a webpage with an optional weekly activity for Band students to do in order to further their learning and skills. This is NOT a cours...

Humanities: Week of Jan 13-17

Hi Folks! Today was mostly productive (for the majority of you...) as we practiced formulating responses for Jan 20th's assessment, caught up on reading, and worked on book studies.  Some of us, have started off 2020 with a "laissez-faire" type of attitude -- yes, you heard me -- and it is my suggestion that we get that out of our systems quick... There's lots on the go! As a reminder, you are always being assessed individually - regardless of whether you collaborate in pairs/groups... Projects where people get the same mark are not the "style" in Grade 8, and it doesn't demonstrate what a single student actually knows...so, be sure to make solid decisions when it comes to using class time effectively, and be wise for what you need to do for yourself and your own learning. Reminder:  - Your Humanities journals were meant to have been handed in yesterday, but since I was not in the building, I extended it to today at the end of class... 8-1: 1...
