Hello Grade 8's,
I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
This week in Science, we began to look into solutions and solubility as we continued to explore dissolving. On Wednesday we tried to separate three (not-so-secret) mixtures in a lab, experimenting with some of the methods discussed in class.
As promised, here are the components needed for your Mixture Separation Write Up which were shared in class today. These are due on Tuesday, October 8.
Mixture Separation Lab Write Up
Students who were away can email me at robadr@cbe.ab.ca. I will let you know what was in the three mixtures, and your task will be to explain how those mixtures could be separated using the separation techniques listed.
This week in Math, we began to look at how to calculate surface area for a rectangular prism (cuboid) and a triangular prism. Next week we will look at surface area of a pyramid.
The following worksheets were assigned and will be due for a homework check on Monday:

The following worksheets were assigned and will be due for a homework check on Monday:
- Rectangular Prism Worksheet
- YOUR CHOICE of Triangular Prism Worksheet OR Triangular Prism 3D Net
- If you choose the 3D Net, you are expected to measure the dimensions (length, width, base, height) and show all the steps you would need to do in order to calculate the surface area.
Students who were away can do these two assignments for homework.
This is not due on Monday, but those of you looking ahead can challenge yourselves by using what you know about surface area to find the surface area of pyramids.
Surface area of triangular prism notes from class yesterday:
Have a good weekend!
Mr. Badr
