Humanities: Week of Jan 13-17

Hi Folks!

Today was mostly productive (for the majority of you...) as we practiced formulating responses for Jan 20th's assessment, caught up on reading, and worked on book studies.  Some of us, have started off 2020 with a "laissez-faire" type of attitude -- yes, you heard me -- and it is my suggestion that we get that out of our systems quick... There's lots on the go!

As a reminder, you are always being assessed individually - regardless of whether you collaborate in pairs/groups... Projects where people get the same mark are not the "style" in Grade 8, and it doesn't demonstrate what a single student actually knows...so, be sure to make solid decisions when it comes to using class time effectively, and be wise for what you need to do for yourself and your own learning.

Reminder:
- Your Humanities journals were meant to have been handed in yesterday, but since I was not in the building, I extended it to today at the end of class...

8-1: 14 of you have NOT submitted your journals.
8-2: 13 of you have NOT submitted your journals.

They are now considered late for those students.

Upcoming Dates:

- Assessment: Jan 20, 2020 (refer to ShareFolder)
- Lockyer Times: Humanism DUE: Jan 24, 2020 (hard copy of task-sheet handed out Jan 13)
- Book Reports DUE: Jan 29, 2020 (refer to ShareFolder) followed by in-class Gallery Walk on Jan 30.

**You were given blocks yesterday and today to work on all of the above.

Tomorrow, we continue with our inquiry of Renaissance Europe -- primarily the Italian City-States, and also, get to know a little bit about Martin Luther... not King. :)

Reset. Stay warm. Come prepared.

See you demain mes amis.

-Mrs. Lockyer

A Final Message Before The Break

Hello 8's! We both just wanted to send out a final message. Since next week is spring break, we won't be receiving or replying to messages until Sunday, March 29. We have all been working hard over the past few months, so we encourage you to step away and relax. As we mentioned in our post from Monday, this past week was still a school week - albeit from home - but you are now officially on spring break. Powerschool has been updated with this week's assignments that were collected. If anything is reflecting as "missing" or "incomplete," that means that we have not received it. This could be a technical issue, but we encourage you to double check (You all know about Mr. Badr's frustration with some vanishing google doc shares) We know there is a lot of uncertainty about what is going to happen after the break. We can't answer your questions regarding that. Please keep an eye on your emails from the CBE and/or TMC School for messages on any u...
