Light and Optics Unit Review

March 15 Update: Since the Alberta government has cancelled all classes for the following week, you will of course not be writing the science tomorrow. You will still be writing it at some point in some form, possibly when all students return to class or as a take-home test. Please check the blog and your emails for updates for when that decision is made.

Hello grade 8's!

Pi day was definitely eventful today and we may have seen the start of the Badr vs. Lockyer war... Payback will be on its way.

I know there are concerns about COVID-19, but it stands right now that we will still be writing the science test on Monday (as we've been talking about for weeks). Be prepared. I know all of your team sports have been cancelled so that should provide ample more studying time. To prepare you should review:

Stay clean, wash your hands, spend time with your family at home and if you are not feeling well on Monday, stay home.

April 2 - Looking Ahead

Hello everyone! It's been wonderful to see that so many students are logging on to D2L! We've been noticing students looking at the Light and Optics slides and working on their writing prompts, so good work! Tomorrow, we are going to have our first Friday class meeting on Google Meet at 10am . An invite code will be sent to your webmail at 9:55am. It is expected that you attend - barring technical difficulties. This meeting will be a little bit longer than our usual meetings since we are still getting up and running. This Week in Math and Science

Hello Grade 8's! Last week in science, we took a look at the particle model of matter, viscosity, density and buoyancy. Slides shown in class can be viewed by clicking here his link . Make sure you know and review these! On Thursday, we looked at the density of different substances in the creation of our density tower. We found that the most dense substance, corn syrup, sank to the bottom, below the other substances. This was followed by dish soap, water, vegetable oil and rubbing alcohol, the least dense substance, resting on top. On Friday,  buoyancy was introduced by Bill Nye . This week, we will continue to look into buoyancy and compressibility. Our density tower - Rubbing alcohol (dyed red), Vegetable Oil (yellow/white), Water (dyed blue), Dish Soap (green), Corn Syrup (brown).
