Pi Day - Parent Message

Hi Friends!

I've attempted to send out a Messenger to your families this evening, but the system is having issues and has cut off my text BOTH times... aargh.

Please let your parents know that we'll be having a Pi Day celebration on March 13 and show them this blurb:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On Friday, March 13 our Gr.8 classes will be celebrating Pi Day!

Typically, the event is held on March 14 (3.14...) but because this year it falls on a weekend, we are going to acknowledge it on the Friday.

Students will participate in a variety of mathematical activities, take part in a lightning round recitation of Pi, and hopefully, eat some actual pie at the end of the day 🙂

We are wondering if anyone would be willing to donate a pie to their child's homeroom, as we would be looking for about 8 full-sized pies per class.

Please let your child's homeroom teacher know if you are able to provide a pie, so that we do not end up with too many. Also, due to a number of dietary restrictions, we would be looking for dairy free and gluten free pie options as well.

Best Regards,
Grade 8 Team

April 2 - Looking Ahead

Hello everyone! It's been wonderful to see that so many students are logging on to D2L! We've been noticing students looking at the Light and Optics slides and working on their writing prompts, so good work! Tomorrow, we are going to have our first Friday class meeting on Google Meet at 10am . An invite code will be sent to your webmail at 9:55am. It is expected that you attend - barring technical difficulties. This meeting will be a little bit longer than our usual meetings since we are still getting up and running. Two main topics we will cover in this meeting: Tutorial on how to submit assignments from Drive on D2L How to take the Practice Quiz (Tomorrow) and the Science Test (Monday) One question we had yesterday was about what Mrs. Thornborough is going to do with Band . We talked to her today and she said that she would set up a webpage with an optional weekly activity for Band students to do in order to further their learning and skills. This is NOT a cours...

Humanities: Week of Jan 13-17

Hi Folks! Today was mostly productive (for the majority of you...) as we practiced formulating responses for Jan 20th's assessment, caught up on reading, and worked on book studies.  Some of us, have started off 2020 with a "laissez-faire" type of attitude -- yes, you heard me -- and it is my suggestion that we get that out of our systems quick... There's lots on the go! As a reminder, you are always being assessed individually - regardless of whether you collaborate in pairs/groups... Projects where people get the same mark are not the "style" in Grade 8, and it doesn't demonstrate what a single student actually knows...so, be sure to make solid decisions when it comes to using class time effectively, and be wise for what you need to do for yourself and your own learning. Reminder:  - Your Humanities journals were meant to have been handed in yesterday, but since I was not in the building, I extended it to today at the end of class... 8-1: 1...
