Update: Tuesday March 31

Hi Friends!

Thank you to those who have e-mailed us their responses - we are reading them and are very happy to hear, that for the most part, you are all keeping well. Please, if you need anything, do not hesitate to reach out to either of us.

If you have not yet sent in your response to the yesterday's blog post, please do so, as it helps us understand how we can best support you. And, it confirms that we have a communication line with you.

At this time, we would like to invite you all to "chat" with us via a Google Meet tomorrow, Wednesday April 1, at 10:30am. We will send the code shortly before the meet-up.

Also, here's a quick update on what to expect going forward:

On average, you can expect to have 10 hours of work each week. This will be a combination of your core subjects (Math, Science, ELA, and Social Studies).  Our plan is to post a "Week at a Glance" every Sunday night in preparation for the upcoming week.

The following 3 platforms will be used as mediums to support your learning:

1. Brightspace by D2L: as a sort of virtual homeroom (refer to the tutorial narrated by Mrs. MacNicolhttps://drive.google.com/file/d/17019J4d9-cD4yoUGDXryUZsjYFEiAsBR/view)

2. Google Classroom/Drive/Meet: (refer to consent letter sent to your parents via Messenger today from Mr. R as well as the PDF posted in Drive)

3. Classroom BlogsAs always, the blogs are a useful tool for us to send out quick messages so make sure you keep checking them regularly.

As for what the next couple weeks are going to look like, we suspect that a lot of the first few days are going to be just reconnecting and sorting out various technology issues. We will have some basic tasks for you to complete as well.

This is going to be a learning experience for all of us in more ways than one, so we to appreciate your patience. We're sure we'll also be able to answer a lot of your questions via the "chat" tomorrow. If you're not able to make it, no worries, we will record the session and post it later.

Ciao for now!

April 2 - Looking Ahead

Hello everyone! It's been wonderful to see that so many students are logging on to D2L! We've been noticing students looking at the Light and Optics slides and working on their writing prompts, so good work! Tomorrow, we are going to have our first Friday class meeting on Google Meet at 10am . An invite code will be sent to your webmail at 9:55am. It is expected that you attend - barring technical difficulties. This meeting will be a little bit longer than our usual meetings since we are still getting up and running. Two main topics we will cover in this meeting: Tutorial on how to submit assignments from Drive on D2L How to take the Practice Quiz (Tomorrow) and the Science Test (Monday) One question we had yesterday was about what Mrs. Thornborough is going to do with Band . We talked to her today and she said that she would set up a webpage with an optional weekly activity for Band students to do in order to further their learning and skills. This is NOT a cours...

Humanities: Week of Jan 13-17

Hi Folks! Today was mostly productive (for the majority of you...) as we practiced formulating responses for Jan 20th's assessment, caught up on reading, and worked on book studies.  Some of us, have started off 2020 with a "laissez-faire" type of attitude -- yes, you heard me -- and it is my suggestion that we get that out of our systems quick... There's lots on the go! As a reminder, you are always being assessed individually - regardless of whether you collaborate in pairs/groups... Projects where people get the same mark are not the "style" in Grade 8, and it doesn't demonstrate what a single student actually knows...so, be sure to make solid decisions when it comes to using class time effectively, and be wise for what you need to do for yourself and your own learning. Reminder:  - Your Humanities journals were meant to have been handed in yesterday, but since I was not in the building, I extended it to today at the end of class... 8-1: 1...
