Google Meet April 1: Takeaways

Hi Friends!
What an amazing turn out via Google Meet today! And thank you all for following the guidelines re: etiquette so closely! It really made for a respectable, seamless call! Well done! Those of you who were doggin' on my Toronto Maple Leafs... I'm watching you closely 😛

Here’s the basic list of we went over today:
Review for Light and Optics Test Monday, April 6
Review for Sentence Structure Quiz Monday April 13
**Information regarding these two assessments will be posted on D2L by tomorrow, Thurs April 2.
  • Our main learning platform will be Brightspace by D2L (If you have issues, refer to Mrs. MacNicol’s tutorial video.)
  • Yes, we will be able to still access our Google Drives through Brightspace by D2L,  as a means of continuing written assignments. We'll show you how to do that over the next few days.
  • Effective Monday, April 6, you will be asked to log into Brightspace by D2L every day (Monday-Friday) so that we can see how you’re staying on top of things. Even if it’s just to check-in, it’ll help with routine and looking over tasks/announcements.
  • As mentioned, the blog (badlock8.blogspot) will eventually phase out. We will let you know when that happens.
  • Every Sunday night/Monday by 9:00 Mr. Badr and Mrs. Lockyer will post a “Week at a Glace” with the upcoming learning plans for that week.
Office Hours: Beginning Monday, April 6
Attendance is optional. These hours are when we will be “live” online (via Google Meet)Monday through Thursday
  • Lockyer: 10am-11am
  • Badr: 11am-12pm
As always, we're available from 8:30am - 3:10pm, however, these hours are when we will be in the chat rooms to talk face to face.

Full Class Meetings: Beginning Friday April 10

Hope this helps!

April 2 - Looking Ahead

Hello everyone! It's been wonderful to see that so many students are logging on to D2L! We've been noticing students looking at the Light and Optics slides and working on their writing prompts, so good work! Tomorrow, we are going to have our first Friday class meeting on Google Meet at 10am . An invite code will be sent to your webmail at 9:55am. It is expected that you attend - barring technical difficulties. This meeting will be a little bit longer than our usual meetings since we are still getting up and running. Two main topics we will cover in this meeting: Tutorial on how to submit assignments from Drive on D2L How to take the Practice Quiz (Tomorrow) and the Science Test (Monday) One question we had yesterday was about what Mrs. Thornborough is going to do with Band . We talked to her today and she said that she would set up a webpage with an optional weekly activity for Band students to do in order to further their learning and skills. This is NOT a cours...

A Final Message Before The Break

Hello 8's! We both just wanted to send out a final message. Since next week is spring break, we won't be receiving or replying to messages until Sunday, March 29. We have all been working hard over the past few months, so we encourage you to step away and relax. As we mentioned in our post from Monday, this past week was still a school week - albeit from home - but you are now officially on spring break. Powerschool has been updated with this week's assignments that were collected. If anything is reflecting as "missing" or "incomplete," that means that we have not received it. This could be a technical issue, but we encourage you to double check (You all know about Mr. Badr's frustration with some vanishing google doc shares) We know there is a lot of uncertainty about what is going to happen after the break. We can't answer your questions regarding that. Please keep an eye on your emails from the CBE and/or TMC School for messages on any u...

Eye Dissection Video

Hello Grade 8's! I'm really sorry we didn't get to do our eye dissection this week. I know that a lot of you were looking forward to it. In the meantime, I wanted to share this video of a dissection of a cow's eye. The video goes through all of the same parts of a dissection that we would have in class. The only difference, however, is that we of course would be wearing much more protective safety gear in our classroom (gloves, aprons, goggles). CLICK HERE Mr. Badr
